Costa Rica and Del Mar Academy

Costa Rica, the land where the Guardians of Nature initiative was born, is a small and great country situated in Central America (10 degrees north of the equator), and considered one of the happiest places on the planet. The impressive richness of its natural resources, the warm and friendly people, and their genuine love for nature and peace make this beautiful country an example for the rest of the world.

Despite its small size, Costa Rica possesses almost 6% of the world’s biodiversity. More than 50% of its land surface is covered by an impressive forest, of which about 25% is considered a conservation area, such as a national park or wildlife refuge. The Costa Rican people believe not only in peace with nature, but also worldwide peace; abolishing its military force since 1949.

In this land of peace, the Guardian´s of Nature main laboratory exists.  Located in a beautiful community on the northern Pacific shores of Costa Rica, Del Mar Academy was founded in 2007 and exists today.  Environmental education, creativity, ethics, leadership, the joy for learning, and love for life are essential parts of the school’s mission. This institution fosters both independence and a sense of belonging to and responsibility toward a larger community, so that students come to believe in their own power to make positive changes .
